THE AMAZING PIPE BENDER PAYBACK: Between 2 and 6 months!
When we go to the SEMA show in November, I always look forward to seeing our associate from Argentina, Daniel Litvak. Daniel has been in the exhaust business for decades, and has an amazing way to get shop operators to see the value in owning a bender.
First he asks how many jobs they are either bypassing or farming out to someone with a bender. A very common answer is “2 or 3 per week”. Of course, he asks this in a humorous and charming manner I have no way to replicate, either on paper OR in person.
Then he asks, “What could you charge for that?” (or “what would you pay?” if you outsource it now) Did you know $250 to $350 per job is not uncommon, of course, depending on the job. That’s $250-$350 you may be sending down the road now!
Then he asks … this time he often turns to a shop owner’s wife (who is often the “CFO”)… what is your cost of that job. The usual answer focuses on out-of-pocket cost for material … 10 feet of pipe, a muffler … maybe $50.
So you get $250-$350 on each job, and it costs you maybe $50 to $75 … that means each job pays you back $200-$300 in cash! At 2-3 per week, that is somewhere between $1400 and $3600 per month in profit returned to you!
Usually at this point, our friend Daniel actually lets the CFO take over the math. There are usually smiles all around when the shop owners realize a Huth Ben Pearson Pipe Bender can be “paid back” in (under these assumptions) BETWEEN 2 and 6 months!!!
After that, it is pure profit for every job! And we have 1000’s of machines that are still in operation after 25 years.
